Kenneth Collins - Assistant Director of Bands
Kenneth Collins, the Assistant Director of Bands at Southern University and A&M College, serves as a music arranger for the Human Jukebox and conducts the Concert Band. Collins, with a rich background including roles at the Eisenhower Academy of Global Studies, The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Band of Excellence, Edna Karr High School, and leadership at John Ehret High School, brings a wealth of experience to his current position.
Commencing his musical journey at age six, Collins progressed from the Martin Behrman Middle School Band to become a band captain, section leader, and student arranger at Edna Karr High School.
Having earned a scholarship to Southern University, Collins fulfilled his dream of joining The Human Jukebox under the direction of Lawrence Jackson. During his undergraduate studies, he excelled as a section leader, founder of the Royal Ambassadors Music Ensemble, and a prolific music arranger for Block Band Music and Publishing Company and the New Orleans Allstar Band.
Post-graduation, Collins continued his musical studies at the University of New Orleans, delving into composition with Yotam Haber, Instrumental Conducting with Charles Taylor, and jazz with Victor Atkins. His leadership at John Ehret High School resulted in numerous first-place awards and Superior Ratings at Concert Band Festivals.
Collins holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Southern University and a Master of Music degree from the University of New Orleans. He is an active member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America, Inc. and Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity Inc.
Equipped with a symphony of accomplishments, Kenneth Collins has a never-ending passion for fostering musical excellence, educational leadership, and sincerely conducting a harmonious blend of musical talent.
