Lorenzo Hart - Director of Percussion
For every unforgettable halftime performance, every precision drum cadence, and every seamless road trip, there are countless hours of preparation happening long before the first note is played. Few people embody that commitment more than Lorenzo Hart.
A proud graduate of Southern University, Hart marched with the Human Jukebox from 1998 to 2002, serving as the section leader from 1999 through 2002. During his time as a student, he earned the distinction of Bandsman of the Year, reflecting the leadership, discipline, and excellence that would become the foundation of his career.
Since joining the Human Jukebox staff in 2005, Hart has become one of the program’s most dependable and influential leaders. As the band’s Percussion Instructor and Equipment Manager, he wears many hats. Whether he’s developing the next generation of percussionists, coordinating equipment and logistics, or ensuring every performance runs smoothly, his fingerprints are on nearly every aspect of the band’s success.
Hart’s leadership extends far beyond teaching rhythms and technique. He instills professionalism, accountability, and pride in every student he mentors. His expectations are high because he understands what it takes to uphold the Human Jukebox tradition. That commitment has helped shape generations of student leaders who carry those same values both on and off the field.
Those closest to the program know that while audiences see the polished performances, they rarely witness the countless hours Hart spends preparing behind the scenes. From loading equipment to coordinating travel logistics and solving problems before they ever become visible, he is a steady presence whose work allows the band to perform at its highest level.
His dedication reflects the spirit of Southern University—servant leadership, excellence, and an unwavering commitment to students. Through more than two decades of service, Lorenzo Hart has helped preserve the legacy of the Human Jukebox while preparing the next generation to carry that tradition forward.
For many, he is an instructor. For others, a mentor. To the Human Jukebox family, Lorenzo Hart is an essential part of what makes the program one of the most respected marching bands in the nation.
