Jaron Williams - Arranger
Mr. Jaron “Bear” Williams joins the Southern University Department of Bands as an accomplished musician, dedicated music educator, and proud alumnus of the internationally acclaimed Human Jukebox. A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Mr. Williams began his musical journey at nine years old as one of the first students in The Roots of Music, a nationally recognized youth music program. Even in his formative years, he demonstrated exceptional leadership, serving as Trumpet Section Leader and Band Captain. The discipline, mentorship, and performance standards cultivated during this time laid the foundation for his continued growth as a musician and leader.
He continued his development at O. Perry Walker High School, where he again earned the roles of Trumpet Section Leader and Band Captain. During his high school career, his musicianship extended onto international stages, performing in France and Japan, in addition to numerous performances throughout the United States. His preparation, consistency, and presence quickly earned widespread respect within band circles and set the stage for his collegiate success.
In 2015, Mr. Williams matriculated to Southern University and A&M College to pursue a degree in Music Education and proudly marched for four years as a member of the world-renowned Human Jukebox. During his tenure within the Southern University Department of Bands, he served as Trumpet Section Leader, guiding his section to earn the prestigious recognition of Section of the Year. He also held the distinguished position of Principal (First) Trumpet in the Southern University Wind Ensemble, demonstrating refined musicianship and technical excellence at the highest level of concert performance. At the culmination of his senior year, he received the program’s highest individual honor, Bandsman of the Year, recognizing his discipline, leadership, and embodiment of the Human Jukebox standard. While at Southern University, he became a member of the Alpha Sigma Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
Following graduation, Mr. Williams expanded his influence as an educator and creative leader. He served on the Booker T. Washington High School band staff and with the New Orleans All-Star Band, where he rose from Assistant Director and Arranger to Head Director in 2024 — a distinguished appointment given the ensemble’s historic legacy and impact on youth music education. Over time, he also returned to The Roots of Music, the program where his journey began, ultimately assuming the role of Director and continuing to develop young musicians while strengthening the organization’s tradition of excellence.
Now serving as Band Arranger for the Southern University Human Jukebox, Mr. Williams brings a rare full-circle perspective, from Roots of Music student to Human Jukebox leader, from Principal Trumpet to Bandsman of the Year, and now as a creative force shaping the program’s musical future. His leadership, musicianship, and unwavering commitment to excellence ensure that the proud legacy of Southern University continues to thrive for generations to come.
